Raft races in Whangaroa

Schools, community groups and clubs in the Far North took to the Whangaroa Harbour for the annual Great Whangaroa Kiwi Can Raft Race. The fun event is organised by the Whangaroa Kiwi Can Charitable Trust, which runs the Kiwi Can programme in the Far North.

'Wakatastic' from Te Kua o Hato Hohepa won best Kiwi Can flag .
The Undead Pirates won the most creative prize.
Open division winners were Bath Tub Bandits take 2.
Mangonui Monsters from Mangonui School won a prize for most creative raft.
Best Team spirit went to 'Moana' from Kaeo Primary School.
Best Team Spirit went to A Kool Off Rhodes, pictured getting towed in by the Whangaroa Coastguard.
First place went to Bay of Islands international Academy's raft The Turbo Sea Snails.
Second in the open division went to Moana NZ Team 2.
Matauri Bay School came second.
Totara North School were the youngest team.
