Lions clubs throughout New Zealand are organising a nationwide Walk for Kids on October 8 and Te Puke isn't going to miss out.

The Walk for Kids is intended to create a greater awareness around children who need wheelchairs, strollers and other forms of transport for mobility in their everyday lives.

The aim on the day is to have as many people as possible out and about clocking up kilometres covering the equivalent distance from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island.

Meeting time is 10am at the playground in Commerce Lane. The route will include Boucher Ave and Moehau St returning to the playground. The walk is wheelchair and stroller-friendly and participants are encouraged to decorate wheelchairs, strollers and scooters and turn up in fancy dress with prizes on offer.

On November 4 the Kiwicoast Lions will present an afternoon soiree at the Pongakawa School Hall with a parade of historical intimate fashions and delicate delights, with a delicious afternoon tea.

Grandma's Secrets will take a journey back in time. There will also be raffles and fine local arts and craft stalls. Tickets at $20 are available through Giftrapt, Barbz Hairdressers and Te Puke Kiwicoast Lions members. Proceeds will go to Kiwi Can.

The annual Pig in the Barrow raffle is once again happening in November. Look out for the pink-dressed Lions Ladies selling tickets outside the Te Puke Post Office on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during November. One lucky winner will have fresh pork and a wheelbarrow filled with groceries for Christmas.
