Te Puke Kiwicoast Lions have made donations totalling $7000 from two recent fundraising events.
An evening with Nadia Lim and a nostalgic afternoon soiree called Grandma's Secrets, both held in early November, were highly successful, with the $3000 raised at the first going to Tauranga Women's refuge and the $4000 raised at the second going to the Graeme Dingle Foundation's Kiwi Can programme run in four Te Puke Schools.
Women's Refuge administrator Sheryl Atkins says the money will go into the children's dedicated fund that is used in a variety of ways to meet children's welfare and medical needs.
Kiwi Can's regional manager Dan AllenGordon says the Lions donation will be used to fund the programme in Te Puke.
There are four Kiwi Can Schools in the district, Te Puke Intermediate, Maketu, Te Kura a iwi o Tapuika (Te Matai) and Te Ranga, with the programme delivered to 600 pupils.
Dan says the programme is delivered weekly and helps build resilience and self esteem. Earlier this year Dan spoke to club members about the programme.
