KEEN cyclists are invited to take part in a scaven ger hunt on wheels to raise funds for charity this weekend.

The inaugural Great K Valley Adventure Race tomorrow at Kopurererua Valley Reserve is part of Sport Bay of Plenty's Bike Month and will raise funds for the Graeme Dingle Foundation.

Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise events committee chairman Warren Scobie said this was the first organised event with the aim of raising the profile of Tauranga's Kopurererua Valley Reserve.

"It is an under-utilised area, a lot of people don't know it exists.

It is upping the profile of the tracks and it is all contained within the reserve so it's a good safe event for people of all ages." Scobie said the Dingle foundation did great work in schools.

It aimed to build children's self-esteem, promote good values and teach valuable life, education and health skills.

Scobie said the event worked like a scavenger hunt on wheels and covered 31km on tracks at the reserve.

He said the cyclist who gathered all clues in the fastest time would win. Riders of all ages and abilities were invited to take part.

"The idea has been wellreceived," Scobie said.

Tauranga mayor Greg Brownless was invited to give out spot prizes after the race and, as a keen cyclist, he said he would possibly join in.

He said the race was a great way to expose the reserve to cyclists who may not have known the track existed.

Great K Valley Adventure Race Tomorrow from 1pm-4pm Kopurererua Reserve at 17th Ave West Registration is required at Entry is $40 per team and $15 per individual.

Participants must be able to ride 10km-25km at their own pace.
